state and local officials because they are going to be providing you with the best advice in terms of how to deal with this storm over the coming days. we just had an excellent meeting with the fema team here, the various agencies that are in charge, including the department of defense, department of energy and others that are going to need to respond very quickly. under craig fugate's leadership here at fema, we've had a chance to talk to the region al officials as well, and i had talks with governors of various states as well as other leaders. everyone is confident that the staging process, the pre-positioning of equipment that will be needed to respond to the storm are in place. but as craig has emphasized, this hasn't hit landfall yet, so we don't yet know where it's going to hit, where we're going to see the biggest impacts, and that's exactly why it's so important for us to respond big and respond fast as local information starts coming in. i want to thank all the members of the team for the outstanding work that they're doing, but the other thing that makes this storm unique

will be talking about heavy snow, locally up to two feet possible across parts of the state of west virginia. many will be out of power and we will get that cold blast of air. that poses a dangerous situation not just for when the storm is on going across the mid-atlantic, but after that. with the power outages and the cold air in place. i quickly want to go over how to prepare. many should be thinking about that across portions of the mid-atlantic and the northeast. make sure your house and your yard is cleaned up. stock up for the long event including gasoline, batteries, flashlights and even drinking and food. so make sure you are stocked up for that. check in on your neighbors and don't forget your pets. have a plan in place. sandy is forecast still to make landfall across the mid-atlantic and northeast coast into monday night. we don't want to focus on where the center of sandy will be making landfall. it is a very large storm system. the national hurricane system stated that tropical storm-force winds exstepped from the center of the storm up to 520 miles. meaning the total storm coverage is

there with the local police chief and i can tell you, it was absolutely extraordinary, the amount of damage that was done by hurricane sandy, erin. you know, there's gas leaks there that have continued to be a problem. we've seen a stream of gas trucks go across the bridge onto those islands to try to shut off the gas. there was one particular area up there in the area of brick where about three or four football fields' worth of houses had been burnt to the ground by fire started by gas leaks so it's a big problem. you can smell it in the air. this was the first opportunity we've had to get over there with our cameras, we were among the first to do so, and there were houses literally in the middle of the street that had been picked up by the force of the ocean and dumped in the middle of the road, still intact. we saw sink holes, one of them had huge full size pickup truck up to its windows in this sink hole. the sand, the dunes used to be about 12 feet tall, if you like. they are now nothing. they have gone, and houses have been exposed, they've been toppled over. the force of the water ju
